ATHENS CITY COUNCIL MINUTES OF MEETING July 16, 2024 The A thens City Council met in regular session on Tuesday , July 16, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in the Athens City Hall Council Chambers with Vice Mayor Eaton presiding. Councilmember Curtis gave the invocation. Councilmember Pelley led the Pledge of Allegiance. Upon roll call, the following members were present: Curtis, Pelley, Eaton Absent: Witt-McMahan, Sherlin The following decisions were made and ordered made a part of the records of the Athens City Council. - 1 - APPROVAL OF MINUTES Councilmember Curtis moved to approve all three (3) session minutes: (corrected March 19, 2024 - regular meeting; June 18, 2024 - regular meeting; and June 25, 2024 - called meeting); Councilmember Pelley seconded. Minutes approved. Roll call vote: AYES: Curtis, Pelley, Eaton NAYS: None - 2 - COMMUNICATIONS AND SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS Vice Mayor Eaton acknowledged the students who are visiting our city through the Friendly City Sister Cities program. Vice Mayor Eaton thanked Denso for sponsoring an event for the students at Trinity Methodist Church. Councilmember Curtis read the letter of appreciation, from the McMinn County Education Foundation, for the donation given by the City of Athens. - 3 - CITIZEN’S COMMENTS Four (4) individuals addressed the City Council. The donation of the pipe from Selective Structures, LLC., opinion/recommendation for changes to the Council Advisory Committee and needed tree trimming in some areas of the city were the topics discussed by the citizens. Councilmember Pelley stood and announced a point of personal privilege; Vice Mayor Eaton denied. Councilmember Pelley moved to challenge the Chair; no second. 1
