IV. D.  Resolution 2026-02, A Resolution Authorizing the City of Athens, Tennessee, to 
Apply for Grant Funding Through the Tennessee America 250 Grant Program  - 
For Footsteps Through History: America 250 at Heritage Park, a Historical 
Walking Trail. 
 
Overview 
This resolution authorizes the City of Athens to apply for a $20,000 Tennessee America 250 
Grant to fund interpretive signage along the new walking trail at Heritage Park. The project, 
Footsteps Through History: America 250 at Heritage Park, will highlight  the shared history of 
the United States, Tennessee, and Athens in conjunction with the nation’s 250th anniversary and 
the park’s 50th anniversary, creating a permanent, ADA-accessible educational and recreational 
amenity for the community. This is a 100% funded grant but the City will be responsible for any 
costs in excess of $20,000. 
 
A memorandum from the city’s Project Manager is attached for additional information as well 
as Resolution 2026-02. 
 
Action to Consider 
Consensus is needed to move this item to the January 20, 2026 regular session for consideration.
