MINUTES Recreation Advisory Board/Tree Board/Little League Board Department of Parks and Recreation The Recreation Advisory Board /Tree City USA Board /Little League Board met in a scheduled meeting on Thursday, October 17th, at 12:01 pm. Upon roll call the following members were present: Bob Miller, Ron Starr, Mary Scudder, Linda Long, Johnny Coffman and Moises Contreras Upon roll call the following members were absent: Larry Rhodes The following guests and staff members were present: Matt Siniard, Derek Phillips, Reya Joseph, and Shellie Stephens The following decisions were made and ordered a part of the records of the Recreation Advisory Board/Tree City USA Board/ Little League Board. -1- MINUTES 12:02pm- Minutes for meetings held on August 15th, 2024, we’re given to board, and we’re reviewed with no changes suggested. Motion made by Bob Miller, seconded by Moises Contreras, to approve the minutes. Motion Carried -2- NEW BUSINESS Heritage Park LRPF Update- 12:03pm Matt Siniard discussed minimizing the footprint and budgetary adjustment s needed for the Heritage Park LRPF Grant . Matt discussed a single play structure versus the original plan of two play structures, one for ages 2- 5 and one for ages 5- 12. Grant will allow one play structure at Heritage Park for ages 2-12. Upcoming Events 12:10pm Matt Siniard discussed upcoming events- Halloween Movie Night at Athens Regional Park on October 18th at 7:30, Halloween Costume Contest on October 24th starting at 4:30pm, and Mother Son Dance on November 2nd at McMinn Co. High School at 6:30 pm. Derek mentioned there will not be a “Downtown Halloween” this year, so the costume contest was relocated to the E.G. Fisher Library. Matt mentioned the splashpad closing on October 21 st so the last day of operation will be on October 20th, 2024. Matt discussed the upcoming Basketball season with registration beginning this November with no place set for practices yet, and games being played at ACMS. Officials are needed. Mary Scudder mentioned MCHS seniors and TWU students who are enrolled in TN Promise who may be available to sign-up.
