From the applicant: 
 
The vinyl siding on the back side of our guest house was ripped off and torn during a recent windstorm. 
We have chosen to upgrade the posterior and both second level sides to match the wood design that is 
on the front of the structure. The wood materials were previously approved when the structure was 
done by previous owners and for some reason, they chose at that time to use vinyl siding that neither 
looked good nor withstood the wind/storms.  
 
Preserve and maintain original wood elements. Protect wood from water exposure to promote its 
longevity. Regularly check for leaking roofs, gutters, and caulking, and make repairs immediately. Match 
replacement materials to originals. Do not cover wood siding with vinyl or other siding.  Wood siding 
types, such as clapboard, drop siding, flush siding, and board-and-batten, as well as wood shingles, are 
common features of many historic buildings and should be preserved whenever possible (pg 29).  
 
The replacement of vinyl siding with wood siding would be appropriate.
