NEW BUSINESS 
A. Amending Athens City Code Title 7 & Title 12 
First Reading of Ordinance No. 1142 
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE ATHENS CITY CODE, TITLE 7 ENTITLED "FIRE 
PROTECTION AND FIREWORKS" AND TITLE 12 ENTITLED "BUILDING AND 
CONSTRUCTION" TO ADOPT THE 2021 EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL 
CODES FOR FIRE (IFC), BUILDING (IBC), PLUMBING (IPC), FUEL GAS (IFGC), 
MECHANICAL (IMC), ENERGY CONSERVATION (IECC), AND EXISTING 
BUILDING (IEBC); AND CREATE CHAPTER 12-XI ENTITLED "EXISTING 
BUILDING CODE". 
Vice Mayor Curtis moved to approve the first reading of Ordinance No. 1142; 
Councilmember Pelley seconded. 
Motion approved.

B. Councilmember Pelley moved to have a called meeting to discuss "why one citizen could 
not touch a building and not make changes but another citizen could"; the motion failed 
for a lack of a second. 
C. Councilmember Pelley moved to add a splash pad at Cook Park; the motion failed for 
a lack of a second. 
D. Councilmember Duggan moved to add a 4-way stop at Miami Street and Matlock 
A venue; Vice Mayor Curtis seconded.
