Agenda Item
XI. B. Additional Parking at Cook Park

Overview
During th e May 11, 2026 work session council reviewed the cost estimates to add additional
parking prepared by Public Works Department staff.

• Extend the existing parking on Cook Drive to add 14 new spaces: $360,000
• Create new parking on East Harper Johnson Drive to add 26 new spaces: $280,000
• Create new parking on Cook Drive adjacent to the railroad to add 30 new spaces: $280,000

Two additional options are now being presented for Council consideration.

• The base option would add 14 new parking spaces, including two new ADA -accessible
spaces, resulting in a total of 25 parking spaces within the park at an estimated cost of
$245,000.
• The expanded option would add 13 additional spaces for a total of 38 parking spaces at an
estimated cost of $335,000.

Construction of either option would require limited sidewalk demolition and would reduce
available green space by approximately 7,000 to 10,000 square feet. The assessment does not
include relocation of the park monument, which staff recommends addressing in conjunction with
any future redevelopment or expansion of park amenities.

No funding has been appropriated for this project at this time.

Action to Consider
Motion, second, and vote are needed to p rovide direction regarding the preferred parking
configuration for Cook Park and whether staff should proceed with project development and future
budget planning.
