SUBJECT: Public Works Furniture 
 
Summary 
The Public Works Department has been sourcing new furniture for the new office building.  We have been 
working with Workspace Interiors Office Furniture Solutions , which has offices in Knoxville and 
Chattanooga.  They were able to offer us pricing on furniture through the Omnia Purchasing Cooperative 
of which the City is a member.   The attached quote w ill provide furnishings for the lobby, locker room, 
breakroom, conference room, and the ten offices initially being occupied.  It includes both the furnishings 
and installation .  The quality of these items is higher than you would find at a general office product 
supplier and as such will be more durable and have a longer useful life .  Most of the items are Steelcase 
and backed by the company’s excellent warranty. 
 
Process 
After selecting Workspace Interiors, we worked closely with their interior designer to review options she 
put together based upon our description of need.  The original list was reduced to a smaller number of 
items which ultimately provided a basis to be used by each person to furnish their office space.  The color 
format was chosen based upon suggestions by their designer as to what would match the color palate 
selected by the architects and approved by the City for the various interior space s within the building.  
This process provided a mechanism to have a uniform color palate throughout the building, as well as 
maintain approximately the same budget for each office space.  This does not include television monitors 
or appliances which are being sourced separately. 
 
Action Item 
The department is requesting approval to purchase the items outlined in Quote 39309 which is attached 
to this memo.  The total purchase price for the items, including installation is $85,994.49.
