SISTER CITIES PROGRAM 
 
MINUTES 
MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS 
Wednesday, August 7, 2024 
12:00pm – Trinity UMC 
 
I. Welcome  
a. Roll Call: 
i. Present: Victoria White, Becky Simpson, Austin Fesmire, Ersa Henry, and Betty Ruleman 
1. Visitors: Anna Barrios(TWU) and Sandra Kinney (Main Street Athens) 
ii. Absent: Steve Sherlin, and Lindsey Ferguson 
II. Approval of Minutes 
a. Motion was made by Ersa Henry , seconded by Becky Simpson, for the approval of minutes of the 
June 26, 2024 meeting. 
Motion carried 
III. New Business 
a. Recap of Chinzei Gakuin visit – Ana recapped the visit with the students and said the program 
went well, the students loved it and the teachers were excited with everything. Next year look 
into sending a survey ahead of time for interest in activities; cooking class, sports, mini groups, 
etc.  
b. Request for Sister Cities Committee to host CG Welcome Dinner next year - Next year look to 
have TWU take back the Welcome Dinner and have Aramark cater it at the Colloms Center. 
c. Discussion of Lecture Series Starting in October – October through July have host locations donated 
and the schedule will be on the websites of Main Street, City of Athens, McMinn County and the 
Athens Chamber of Commerce. 
d. Plaque for Dr. CS Long grave – Part of the grave, the plaque, needs to be repaired but Community 
Development at the City is assisting with securing it to the grave. 
e. Set meeting schedule moving forward – Next meeting will be held January 28, 2025.
