From the applicant: 
 
The addition we are making on the backside of our house is a 16x14 screened-in porch that will 
have 1 fan/light fixture and 4 canned lights in the ceiling. The porch will be painted a nice 
creamy white color that will look clean and go with the rest of the house and add aesthetic and 
monetary value to the home. The porch/deck will have a shingled roof, and all the work is being 
done by licensed professionals who have worked on other houses in the historic district.  
 
An addition should not conceal or compromise the original form of a building. The addition 
should not imitate historic features, but instead be clearly differentiated from the original 
building. Contemporary designs achieve compatibility through massing, scale, footprint, and 
roof form in relation to the historic design. Select inconspicuous locations for additions, usually 
on the rear or least visible elevation of the historic building. Limit the scale and size of an 
addition as not to overpower or diminish the historic building or its site (pg 60).  
 
The addition of the screened-in porch on the rear of the residence does meet the Guidelines.
