LPRF Contingency Funds 
As you are aware , the City of Athens was awarded an LPRF matching grant in the amount of 
$500,000 for a project total of $1,000,000, to renovate Heritage Park. The City Council approved 
acceptance of this grant. 
On August 24, Mike Keith, Bo Perkinson, and I were asked by TDEC to attend a meeting re lative to 
the grant.  During this meeting, we were informed that TDEC has authorized what amounts to 
matching contingency funds, for this grant, in the amount of $125,000 for a total of $250,000.  
This would p otentially bring the project total to $1,250,000. 
The extra funds are only offered to us in the event our line -item construction amounts exceed the 
budget. If that happens, we would be able to use the extra amount to offset the overage.  Under the 
current contract, if there is an overage, Athens would be whol ly responsible for completing the scope 
of the grant as written.   These are no obligation funds unless we need to use them and there is no 
penalty for returning part or all of the funds. 
It was the consensus of all of us at the meeting that this  protective measure should be accepted. 
If the Council agrees, a resolution will be prepared for the September 22nd City Council  meeting 
that will secure the funds.
