RESOLUTION NO. 2022-25 
 
A RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT MATCHING  
LOCAL PARKS AND RECREATION FUND (LPRF) CONTINGENCY FUNDS FROM 
 THE STATE OF TENNESSEE  
DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND CONSERVATION (TDEC)  
FOR HERITAGE PARK RENOVATIONS 
 
 WHEREAS, on July 20, 202 1, the City Council approved Resolution No. 2021 -26 to apply 
for and accept funding for a matching grant from the Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF)  in 
the amount of $500,000 for a total project cost of $1,000,000 for Heritage Park renovations; and, 
 
 WHEREAS, on May 4, 2022, the City of Athens was awarded the LPRF matching grant; 
and, 
 
 WHEREAS, on August 24, 2022, the City of Athens was informed that TDEC has authorized 
additional amounts as matching contingency funds, for this grant, in the amount of $125,000 ; 
and, 
 
 WHEREAS, these funds are available on an as -needed basis in the event line -item 
construction amounts exceed the budget; and 
 
 WHEREAS, the City of Athens is committed to matching the grant funds ($125,000) dollar-
for-dollar for a total project cost of $1,250,000. 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Athens, Tennessee, as 
follows: 
 
That the recitals above are true and accurate and form a part of this Resolution; and 
 
That meeting in regular session this 22nd  day of August, 20 22, the Mayor and City 
Manager are hereby authorized to accept these additional funds as outlined above in the event 
line-item construction amounts exceed the budget. 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Athens City Council that this resolution shall take effect 
immediately from and after its passage, the welfare of the Municipality requiring it.
