Playground

c. Discussion of Contributing $1 ,000,000 to the Athens City Board of Education for Westside 
School Improvements and cancelling the 1984 Funding Agreement 
Councilmember Pelley moved to approve the contribution of $1,000,000 per the Finance 
Director's suggestion and to make no changes to the original contract; Vice Mayor Curtis 
seconded. 
Discussion began with City Manager Dowling explaining that an agreement between the City 
and the City Board of Education was approved in August 2020 regarding the new city school 
construction project and how the savings from the school consolidation would fund the annual 
debt payments. Currently, the city Board of Education pays the city $700,000 per year to go
