PUBLIC WORKS

MEMORANDUM

TO: Bridget Roberts, Interim City Manager
  Mike Keith, Finance Director

FROM: Ben Burchfield, Public Works Director

DATE: October 7, 2026

SUBJECT: Asset #4879 Street Sweeper Replacement Purchase

Background

The Public Works Department is requesting Council approval for purchase of a replacement
street sweeper for Assets #4879 in the street cleaning division. The department has utilized an
upfitted chassis in its current and previous sweepers; whereas this model is the first purpose -
built chassis we’ve considered. This being proposed primarily for lower maintenance costs due
to less parts redundancy for the regenerative vacuum system (which has resulted in increased
maintenance obligations on the current unit), and the continuing cost increases we’ve observed
on equipment, generally. While this purpose-built chassis is approximately 6-7% more expensive
than an upfitted counterpart, we plan to extend the useful life period from 5 to 7 years or
potentially longer subject to future maintenance obligations.

The Department is requesting approval of purchase of a Global R4 Air Sweeper for $399,122.00
from the fleet fund. The equipment is being procured under the competitively bid Sourcewell
Contract #062425-GEP.

After receipt of the equipment, inspection, and addition to the City’s insurance coverage, we
intend to surplus asset #4879 and list for sale on GovDeals.

Action Item

Approve purchase of replacement sweeper as quoted below for $399,122.00 subject to any
additional cost variability as outlined under the quote comments.
