A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF ATHENS, TENNESSEE, TO ACCEPT 
GRANT FUNDING FROM THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TO 
CREATE A HEALTHY LIVING TRAIL AT THE MAYFIELD STORMWATER PROJECT 
SITE. 
 
WHEREAS, the City of Athens has obtained an ARP Stormwater Grant for the 
construction of a stormwater facility along the Oostanaula Creek near Mayfield Lane and Forrest 
Avenue, which includes the addition of a walking trail scheduled to open in 2026; and 
 
WHEREAS, the subject property was originally a part of the historic farmland associated 
with Mayfield Dairy; and 
 
WHEREAS, farming, stormwater management, nutrition, and exercise are all integral 
components of healthy living; and 
 
WHEREAS, the Tennessee Department of Health provides funding for educational 
projects that promote healthy living; and 
 
WHEREAS, the City of Athens desires to accept grant funds from the Tennessee 
Department of Health in the amount of Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000.00) with no local match 
required, to provide for the design, manufacture, and installation of educational signage; and 
 
WHEREAS, the proposed project represents a long- term public investment that will 
promote public knowledge of agriculture, clean water, stormwater activities, nutrition, and 
exercise in support of the physical well-being of the community. 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF 
ATHENS, TENNESSEE, THAT: 
 
The Mayor, City Manager, or their designee is hereby authorized to execute and submit all 
necessary documents, agreements, and assurances on behalf of the City of Athens to accept grant 
funding from the Tennessee Department of Health in an amount not to exceed $15,000.00 for the 
implementation of the Healthy Living Trail at the Mayfield Stormwater site.
