McMinn County historically has had several tornados in the past. The largest tornado, an F4, 
occurred in 1953 with no information on deaths or injuries provided by the NCDC database. An 
F1 tornado killed one individual and injured 32 in 1974. The last notable tornado occurred 
November 30, 2016, an EF2 killed 2 people and inju red 20. The damage cost was into hundreds 
of thousands with many losing their homes and livelihood. According to wbir.com, as reported 
on December 1, 2016, the November 30, 2016 tornado also destroyed 30 structures.
