ATHENS CITY COUNCIL

MINUTES OF MEETING
August 17, 2021

The Athens City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. with Mayor
Perkinson presiding. The invocation was given by Council Member Pelley; and upon roll call, the following
members were present:

Curtis, Pelley, Witt-McMahan, Lockmiller, Perkinson
The following decisions were made and ordered made a part of the records of the Athens City Council.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The Minutes of the July 20, 2021 regularly scheduled meeting were submitted and approved by
unanimous consent.

COMMUNICATIONS AND SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS

PRESENTATION OF SOAP BOX DERBY PROCLAMATIONS

Council Member Curtis presented a proclamation honoring Madison Woods (Super Kids Champion) for
her participation in the 26" annual All-American Soap Box Derby, Council Member Pelley presented a
proclamation honoring Zeke Hembree (Local Super Stock Car Champion) and Vice Mayor Lockmiller
presented a proclamation honoring Juliette Couch (Local Stock Car Champion) for their participation in
the 2021 All-American World Championship Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio.

PRESENTATION OF PROCLAMATION — PURKEY FAMILY DAY

Mayor Perkinson presented a proclamation honoring Purkey’s Office Supply and the Purkey family for
their many contributions made to the community.

PRESENTATION OF VIVID AWARD

This month’s recipient of the VIVID Award, Pastor Larry W. Saunders, was unable to attend the meeting.
Arrangements are being made to schedule presentation of the award at a later date.

CITY PARK SCHOOL UPDATES

Kristine Walden, Principal at City Park School, attended the meeting but did not provide an update.

CONSENT AGENDA

Mayor Perkinson advised that the following items were discussed during the recent study session and are
presented as part of the Consent Agenda. The recording clerk read the following items into the record:

a.) Reappoint Amy Goodin to the Athens Regional Planning Commission, term expires
September 21, 2024.
b.) Reappoint Jennifer Hardison to the Health & Educational Facilities Board, term expires

September 21, 2027.
