The City of Athe ns currently maintains and o perates five (5) schools within the City School System as 
follows:

They are also currently building a new facility that will eventually co nsolidate all the above listed 
primary and intermediate schools on one campus on Keith Lane.  
 
Recreation Services 
The City of Athens currently maintains approximately two hu ndred ninety-three (293) acres of open 
space and recreational park s.  Of note is the acr eage devoted to the Athens Regional Park, the City’s 
largest public recreational area, which i s approximately one hundred sixty (160) acre s. The nearest  
State or Federal Park facilities are in eastern McMinn County (Cherokee National Forest).
